Zagreb fire departments training center

The value of firefighting training is difficult to calculate because it’s impossible to put a value on human life. Saving lives and avoiding injury are the reasons why we invested in training facilities. There is no substitute for firefighting training under safe, controlled conditions.
Firefighting professionals agree that training can:
• Reduce the number of injuries and deaths of firefighters and civilians
• Reduce property damage
• Increase fire department efficiency and morale
• Improve training capability of fire department
• Improve public image of the fire department
• Contribute to a continuation of an effective volunteer fire service
• Reduce lost time injuries
• Reduce property loss and business interruption resulting from fire
Zagreb fire departments training center is largest electronically controlled training facility in Croatia. Officially opened on October 23, 1993, it represents large contribution to firefighter training in Zagreb fire department.
Training center is located in Central Fire station 1 of our fire department.

Besides everyday obligatory psychically training, all operational firefighters must pass training center drill twice a year. If they don’t pass they are been send to medical examination.
All prospective firefighters must pass this physical ability test before being employed in Zagreb fire department.

Training and drills in the use of S.C.B.A.'s must be
provided to simulate as near actual emergency
conditions as possible.

For training center drill, firefighters are required to wear a turn-out jacket, fire helmet, a self-contained breathing apparatus and structural firefighting gloves and boots (complete personal protective equipment).

2. Control Desk (picture 2)

The control and monitoring desk enables the training instructor to monitor the system itself and training session at the same time. It is designed to make it possible for a single operator to monitor the complete system and to control all individual facilities. The nature and number of control elements and the straightforward arrangement is a common feature of all components. The monitors are arranged in central position and, in connection with cameras they facilitate a virtually overall monitoring of the training route. The training session can be recorded by video for subsequent discussion. The illuminated display of symbols in the obstacle path indicates the exact position of the fire-fighters. An intercommunication system enables the controller to issue verbal instructions and to receive reply. The „panic button“ is one of the most essential components since shuts down all special effects, starts emergency ventilation to clear smoke and activates lighting.

4. Horizontal tread mill (picture 4)
This is a multi tiled band that co-operates with roller bearings. This elastic belt reduces the adverse effects by 90 %. Therefore the well known overload reactions concerning joints as well as hip-bone are minimized

The tread mill is user friendly because of the specially designed program module for controlling and steering operations. Therefore it eases manual operations.

Features:

• continuously adjustable incline 0 - 20 %
• extremely inherent stability of railing
• low operating costs thanks to low energy demands
• shockles belt acceleration from the very beginning ( 0.1 km/h )
• individual training program
• low space requirements
• stable railing with built in safety switch to provide you with maximum safety.

Zagreb fire departments request on Horizontal tread mill
• Speed 6 km/h
• 3 % inclination
• 3 minutes

5. Weight lifting (picture 5)
• 15 lifts x 20 kg

6. Vertical Tread Mill (picture 6)

The ladder is one of the best proven training aids. It has already been used in training routes of miners and fire brigades at the beginning of the century. The vertical tread mill follows this tradition. In renowned Dräger quality, this central component facilitates training in most realistic manner. Thanks to its automatic start-stop and a gentle drive, the trainee always remains at the right position. Its rise velocity is infinitely adjustable within the range of 3 to 25 m/min, and this also goes for the meters to be climbed. As compared with a „normal“ ladder, it is of extremely compact design so that it can be installed at almost any place, thus rendering utmost space economy Without readjustment of the counter mechanism or the rise velocity it enables several trainees in succession to perform their exercise under absolutely identical conditions
Features:
• virtually wear-resistant and extremely soft self
• braking motor
• sturdy construction
• electronic measurement of climbed height
• automatic switching off once desired value is reached
• infinitely adjustable control of velocity

Zagreb fire departments request on Vertical tread mill
• 30 meters
• Position 6 on potentiometer

7. Bicycle (picture 7)

The bicycle is a training ergometer, featuring two manual and two programmable training programs, as well as an automatic program with pulse-rate controlled output adjustment. This facilitates an optimum cadio-circulatory training which does not require any manipulations during the training process. The pulse-rate dependent output control works completely independent in accordance with the presenlected pulse rate of the training target. All training-relevant parameters are indicated on the display: calculated training results can be recalled.

Specification:

• terminal, including all control and information functions,
• 2 manual and 2 programmable training programs, as well as an automatic program, to be integrated in the control panel –
• display of pulse rate, output, number of revolutions, training time, joule or calorie consumption and stop clock
• infinitely adjustable height adjustment
• front buffer to balance floor unevenness
• electrically controlled eddy current brake - 3 m connection cable and foot switch for 220/110 V socket

Zagreb fire departments request on bicycle
• Start with 100 W
• For every minute +50 W
• 2 minutes, 200 W

8. Training Facility (picture 8)

The training facility enables working in tanks, or the rescue of casualties from tanks, containers and narrow entrances while wearing life-saving equipment. The vessel is shaped like a lying cylinder with a grid opening at the front of facilitate supervision. The system is arbitrarily extended thanks to special modules. The top features two openings with heavy domed covers, surrounded by a catwalk of a water-resistant, 38mm thick chipboard for safe walking along. Ascent takes place by way of an external 6-rung ladder, while entrance is facilitated by a hook ladder.

9. Training Galleries and smoke chamber with pipe system (picture 9)

Pipe System facilitates thorough training of work to be performed at gas, water or similar pipelines. The fact that the system can be filled with compressed air makes for true-to-life training procedures, since any leak is immediately detected. By means of chips, the pipes can be securely fixed to the holding frame

“There is no question that substantial levels of physical fitness are required for firefighting and rescue work. A recent review of the available scientific literature on firefighting job performance concluded that without a moderately high level of physical fitness, firefighters cannot perform their jobs safely or well. The bottom line is that a low level of fitness jeopardizes the safety of not only the individual but also his or her co-workers and the public.
Many firefighters and rescue workers follow a regular exercise and conditioning program. Making time for regular physical training is analogous to the time spent maintaining your rescue tools, vehicles and equipment but in this case you’re working on your most important piece of firefighting and rescue equipment - your body”.
