GAS EXPLOSION IN A HOUSE
At 02:55 on September 28th 2005 a
gas explosion in a family house located in
the Sveta Klara settlement was reported.
Attack vehicle
and truck tank from the Fire Station
Novi Zagreb along with 8 workers were sent
to intervene. As they arrived to the site,
it was apparent that the blast took down
half of the house and the neighbor reported
that two people are trapped under the ruins.
Fire Station Centar was called in as back up
and they arrived with two technical vehicles
and one command vehicle with 7 workers. The
gas plant emergency service was called to
the site to measure gas concentration during
the intervention. Due to the amount of the
ruins ZET’s (Zagreb’s electrical public
transportation) crane truck was also called
in.
After two and a half hours of hard work and
the use of lifting bags both persons were
rescued so that there was no need to use the
ZET’s crane truck. Because the gas continued
to leak, the truck tank
from the F. S. Novi Zagreb with two
workers remained at the site until 15:45 for
security reasons. An ambulance also took
part in the intervention and took care of
all injured parties.
