House Fire
At 13:27 a.m. the Zagreb Fire Department responded to a
report of an unknown type fire in Maksimir, Zagreb. While Fire Stations were responding additional
reports confirmed smoke from a house with of a
person still trapped inside. Several neighbors
attempted to go inside the dwelling prior to Fire
Fighter’s arrival but were unable to go further than
a few feet due to the heavy smoke. The first
arriving Fire Station-Fire Station 1 “Savska”, found
extensive fire from a single story, single family
dwelling with two other houses in danger of igniting.
First attack vehicle (G 110) crew were able to quickly
initiate an aggressive interior attack by battling
the flames which had now engulfed the front door
entrance. While Fire Fighter group 1 held the fire
and kept it from extending into the bedrooms, Fire
Fighter group 2 started a primary search. Fighter
group 2 found the unconscious victim on the floor
in a back bedroom and carried her to the front lawn
where Paramedics started medical treatment. Without
the solid tactics of placing hose lines in the
proper position inside the house combined with a
rapid search, the rescue and the victim’s chances of
survival would not be as positive.
The victim is Judy Sakae in her 50’s. She was
transported in critical condition to Methodist
Hospital where Doctors remain cautiously optimistic
as they assess her injuries.
