The Emergency Communications
Center exists to translate citizen any fire
(93) and non-emergency
telephone service requests into the
appropriate action and dispatch fire and
other services via telephone, radio and/or
data communications. In the past, the Dispatch
Center relied solely on phones and radios to
get emergency crews on the road but
Computers are now changing the world of
dispatching.
The Emergency Communications
Center provides 24 hour answering of all
emergency fire and medical aid calls. The
ECC continues to use technology to provide
fast and effective emergency communication
services. Using sophisticated radio
communication, computers and a Records
management system, the ECC is able to
process requests and expedite the dispatch
of emergency fire personnel in an any
emergency.
When to call 93?
You should only call 93 when
you are reporting an emergency. An emergency
is a situation that threatens human life or
property and demands immediate attention. Do
not call 93 for non-emergencies; this causes
delays in the handling of real emergencies.

The ECC has radio transmitter
sites, located strategically throughout the
City. There are also several receiver sites,
which ensure quality communications between
field units and the ECC. The ECC has radio
and telephone console positions in which any
trained Dispatcher can answer emergency and
non-emergency telephone calls, as well as
radio to dispatch firefighter personnel.
